Gloria hallelujah - Great Translation Services

My husband and I purchased a condominium in Puerto Aventuras (PA), Mexico.  As you can imagine, we had a very long list of things to do.  As we prepared for our move, a recurring theme continued to creep into our thoughts and conversation.  How were we going to handle setting up all our utilities and other necessary paperwork without speaking fluent Spanish?  After all, being able to say “si” and “gracias” just was not going to get the job done.

We told some close friends of ours in PA that we were looking for a translator.  They suggested that we call Gloria Contreras and that we could find her contact information in the Pelican Free Press. We sent Gloria an email inquiring into her services and prices.  She responded right away, explained that she is a certified translator and Spanish instructor, and would be happy to help with whatever we needed.  She even offered to pick us up from the airport, and do some light shopping for us as we began the unpacking process. Although we declined those services, we were very impressed that she offered.

We emailed Gloria and asked if she could assist us on our first day of arrival.  We told her we could reimburse her in advance by money transfer or PayPal.  Gloria was a trooper.  She just said we could pay her when we met. Since we had just purchased a condominium that had been used as a rental, we wanted the locks changed immediately.  We sent Gloria the contact information for a locksmith that had been referred to us. She contacted the locksmith and arranged to meet us shortly after our arrival at our new home to get the job done.  She was there on time and on budget.  We were beginning to feel the advantages of having a translator.

It was our next two projects that really had us worried though; having to deal with the local telephone/internet company, Telmex and the electric company, CFE.  Gloria continued to be positive and assure us that as long as we had all the appropriate paperwork, she would be able to help us.  In both situations, she picked us up at our new home and escorted us to the appropriate utility company.  She met with the representatives in our behalf, explained what we needed, translated as necessary so that each party understood what the other needed to do, and before we knew it, our utilities were in our name and we had our new account numbers. Glory hallelujah...or should we say Gloria hallelujah…talk about relief! There is no way we could have maneuvered either of these two systems without her help.

We were filled with so much gratitude for her assistance.  Moving is such a stressful event, and moving to another country, without knowing the language, makes it even more challenging.  Having Gloria provide such exemplary customer care made our transition so much smoother.

At each opportunity, Gloria provided cultural enlightenment and insights.  She is truly a wonderful person with an open heart and open mind.  We see Gloria not just as a translator, but also as our new friend.  We have contracted with Gloria to continue to use her expertise.  We recommend you do the same!
